You do not need a referral to see a Clinical Psychologist.

A referral is needed under the Better Access Scheme. A refund is available from Medicare if your GP or Psychiatrist refers you through completing a Mental Health Care Plan. Your GP will require you to book a longer consultation time to conduct this assessment.

Under the Plan you are entitled to a maximum of 10 individual sessions per client per calendar year, with a review by the referring doctor required after the initial six sessions. In addition, you are also eligible for 10 group session services, where appropriate, in a calendar year.

There are a number of issues which may enable you to be eligible to access the mental health care program. These may include feelings of depression, anxiety, panic, loss and grief, trauma, stress and past experiences of abuse.
